THE UNIQUE WEDDING
Our Love Story
To start with our love story ,I should start at the very beginning.
During our school careers I met Chris through mutual friends in 2005. We got to know each other by name but weren’t on that friendship level.
In April 2010, just after my first TUKS Term test, my friend and I went to a local pub for a celebration. Guess who I found there? Chris…..
That night Chris stole my heart with his afro-curly hair, his green eyes and the way he could through a “brannewyn”!! He asked me a few nights later, under the stars on my parent’s porch, to be his girlfriend.
Precisely 6 years, 3 months and 14 days later we had gotten to know each other’s dreams, fears and motivations. Thinking or remembering all the moments that Chris made unforgettable- those were the times that made it easier during the difficult times (accidents, death and retrenchment).
The person who gave me a shoulder, a hand and the motivation to carry on- That is what makes Chris and my self’s story our love story.
When we finally got to this stage of 6 years 3 months and 14 days later- Chris made his biggest decision and gave me one of my happiest moments!
We booked a weekend away at ATKV Klein Kariba. We went there for the reason because they had the outdoor activity horseback riding. Chris wanted to spoil me because I had never rid a horse before. We made it a group getaway with our best friends.
The weekend started slowly and we enjoyed every moment. The Saturday afternoon we all went excitedly to the horse stalls. We all experienced the outdoor, fresh breeze as we rode through the bush. While we were riding- we came across a table and chairs that were put out for a tasteful picnic, in the middle of the bushes. I did not expect that!!!
There, with cold drinks, sparkling champagne, the best of friends and the bird’s chirping in the trees- Chris took my hand and asked me to be his wife.
With absolute shock and disbelief I was quiet for a looonnnnggggg time- then Chris asked again!!!! I was the luckiest girl in the world to be asked twice by the man of my dreams!
I answered: “Yes! Why did you ask again?”
Planning the perfect Unique Wedding took a year and two months. Chris was excited – but just like all of our married friends warned us, I would be doing most of the work, I would be feeling the most stress and yes, I would be crying the most beforehand.
I’m the organized one between the two of us, but planning, getting quotes and finalizing the finishing touches to our perfect wedding day- was not for me!
I think the only way I truly got through it without breaking down was the help I got from our parents and friends.
The Unique Wedding Day
The day broke on with a grey-color and a moving wind. “Would this be our blessed day? Our day looks so sad?” This was the thoughts going through my mind.
As we were getting ready the wind stopped and the light started to light up. At 10:58 that morning the old wooden door was open for me to step out on the fairy tale porch, the ceiling was made out of white bird cages, white tutus, white hearts and white porch pillars. Across the hessian carpet and surrounded with our families and friends stood Chris with tears in his eyes (all the tears I had cried before the wedding), the man of my dreams. My father walked me down the aisle with the words of Ruelle: “I prayed for you before I called you mine. I can’t believe it’s true sometimes. I can’t believe it’s true- I get to love you, it’s the best thing I’ll ever do, I get to love you- It’s the promise I’m making to you. Whatever may come, your heart I will choose. Forever I’m yours. Forever I do.”
Reaching Chris at the end in front of the pastor, my heart was in my chest and the love of all our family and friends surrounding us. It is was an unbelievably overwhelming feeling.
From that moment of the register, to the confetti getting blessed by the colorful rose petals. The feeling of utter happiness getting photographed by the stunning Dune Kahlau. From our seated late brunch to our first dance- was an imprinted memory Chris and I will never forget.
Opening The Dance Floor
Opening the dance floor to Ed Sheeran’s lyrics: “I found a love for me, darling just dive right in follow my lead. I found a girl beautiful and sweet. I never knew you were the someone waiting for me. We were just kids when we fell in love- not knowing what it was. I will not give you up this time- Darling just kiss me slow, your heart is all I own and in your eyes your hope is mine”.
These words were from Chris- choosing this specific song – describing that moment to a tee, gave tears in my eyes. My heart swelled with joy, love and thankfulness for being blessed with a husband like mine.
The rest of the day was full of specialities like me and my father’s first dance, our pudding that was waffles with ice-cream, strawberries and HAP chocolate sauce. Chris taking off the garter, throwing my bouquet (deco) to split my real bouquet with the two strongest and most supportive mothers we have.
What a perfect Unique Wedding day- a day that was full with love, laugh, life and nature. We could not have had any day better than the one we got! We were and are still blessed.
