Before we knew it, our big day has arrived. The day that I could dress up like a real princess in a white dress, without playing make-believe. The day I could walk towards the love of my life to promise that I’ll be his wife and love him forever.
The Team who made it happened:
The Forest Wedding
My wedding ceremony was held in the forest, near our hometown, Piet Retief.
The forest holds special memories for both of us. Growing up in the surrounding area and remembering days we would play marbles, learn to drive or go fishing at a stream between the trees when we were younger.
We both share a love for nature and thus having our ceremony held in the woods, added to the majestic fairytale atmosphere.
The First Dance
I honestly thoroughly enjoyed every single little detail about our wedding and picking a single highlight is quite tricky.
But I would say that our first dance together as Mr and Mrs du Plessis was my most cherished moment.
I was wearing my white satin ballet shoes as I did many times as young girl twirling around.
This time I was dancing with my “prince”. The song we danced on is called “Home” from Blue October.
A song explaining exactly how excited we are for the road that lies ahead and sharing it together.
Gareth would spin me around and then hold me close again. We were looking deeply into each other’s eyes, just getting lost in this special moment together.
Tips for Brides-to-be
The most important lessons I have learned through this journey of planning a wedding and preparing to be a wife is:
When there are so many options to choose from and others have different opinions to yours, speak up about what lies in your heart, what YOU like, and negotiate with your husband.
In the end, it is you and your husband’s day.
Secondly, on the day of the wedding: fully be in the moment.
Enjoy every second and take in as much detail as possible. It passes so quickly.
Don’t try to have everything perfect, because perfection lies in imperfection.
Remember that a happy bride is the most beautiful bride.
Confidence does more than any make-up tricks. Just enjoy every moment.
Celebrate love and dance. This is your fairytale.
